Learner Response:
www: -   good images
           - good presentation - nice and simple
            - good points made
ebi: - organised what i was going to say at first
       - spoken louder
       -  chosen something else to make it obvious of the parallel and contrapuntal images.
I think the person that had a great presentation was Harkiran, because the collages was presented well and you could tell which one was parallel and contrapuntal towards the music.

Film Lanuage; Lighting.

This images has the effect of low key lighting, because of how the strong contrasts of the light and dark to create the dramatic shadows. The effect is known as chiaroscuro, in the image the background colour is black which represents the genre of to which it could be; horror or sci-fi, this also supports the mood of the audiences to be dark and dull when you do look at it, however the use of the smoke being in most parts of the frame makes us wonder what the characters play may be and what emotions she wants to get through the audience. This is a strong effect also because of the facial expression the character has, the slightly narrowed eyes could explain that she may be femme fatale. In this image there is the use of key light and filler light, you can clearly see that the key lighting is coming from the side as it has the brightness and most influential lighting can be seen at the side of her face, the use of lighting allows the audience see her facial expressions and some could say that lighting that is coming from the side of her face to represent that she could have a good side to her? rather then all bad. The use of the filler light softens the shadow and this is created by another light.

This image has a low-key lighting because most of the image has the background colour of black and only a key light that is hitting the lady's face for the audience to see her facial expression and her pose. The use of the low-key lighting creates the effect of a dark filed and dramatic shadows within the image making the audience think of horror/sci-fi movies as they are quite dark and scary references to those type of genre. In this image the lighting is referred as top lighting as the lighting is coming from above, this effect accentuate the features of the character, this effect is oftern used to make the film starts more glamorous and attractive visible to the camera. The effects that are created by lighting in this image is that as the character is looking up, it looks like she's thinking about something and her fingers are rested on her jaw line is shows that she's thinking something deep so the audience could connect to the characters emotion.

This image uses high key lighting, because it uses more filter light  and the effect seems realistic the use of the light and darkness isn't so of a huge difference although the brightness is very high. The lighting that is being used is back lighting because behind the character we can see a source of lighting that catches our attention when we look at the background, this effect create a silhouette, although we can see the character clearly but their outlines are visible. Also key lighting has also been used because of the brightness and influential lighting. Using these lighting effects
we as the audience can clearly see the characters facial expressions which tells us that he has a cute concentrated face as his eyebrows are narrowed and its almost like he's glaring into the camera shot.

Low key lighting has been used to create the effect by using key lighting and back lighting, this effect allows the audience to see the dark and dramatic shows in the images. the key lighting has brightest and influential lighting and the back lighting allows and helps to counteract the effects of the key lighting, making the subject more rounding and allows the audience to see the little details within the image and the character itself. The shot has been taken from a downwards shot to make the character look as if they are in more of a powerful status and their importance. In this image the lighting has be used to come top of the character to enhance and accentuate the defeaters of the characters. The lighting has been used to make the audience see what type of character he would be and they can then support that idea by the use of facial expression and body language they have.

In this image it uses low key lighting because it has mainly light and some elements of contrasts, this then creates a shadow that we can see of the character. This is used by key lights and filler light as the lights is being shown on the character, her shadow comes across to the audience by the wall behind her. The filler light help to soften any shadows created by the lights. I think another element of lighting that has been used is under-lighting because it needs to be upfront of the character to have that many brightness and shine at front to crate this effect. This effect, allows to us to clearly see the characters facial expression so we can get a hint of what type of charter she is and what emotions she could be feeling in that moment.

High key lighting has been used in this image, more filler lights have been used to create a realistic and dimly lit scene, this also supports the type of atomsphere the two characters are in. There is still a contrast and a balance of the light and dark. The backlighting (from the window) shines through the two characters to create a silhouette this also highlights the key features of the characters. Using these lighting, the audience is able to connect to the audience and see the characters facial expression and also gives the visual references on the image in depth and simply so the characters can be seen by the public.

Low lighting has been used in this image which is used by back lighting and key, this effect uses a contrast of light and dark and particularly in this image it has shown dramatic shadows of the 4 men in this image. The backlighting has been used in this image is so the characters can be seen by the audience and it outlines the characters shape and the audience can spot them easily. The key lighting is important because it has the brightness and the influential lighting can allow the dramatic shades to take place. This can also create a silhouette. The key effect this lighting brings towards the audience is the detail and depth they can see in the image.

Low key lighting has been used again by using key and back lights, the effect creates dramatic shadows, this is because of the contrast between the light and dark. As the light is backlight is shown on the character, the shadows is dramatic and visible to be seen, the lighting allows the audience to see the characters facial expression and see how she's feeling then. There is many uses of filler light been used in this image instead using underweight, top or back lighting. The filler background softens the shadows and allows the lighting to be hit in serval angles within in the image.

High key lighting, is being used in this image, which means that more filter lights, this makes the image more realistic. In the image there isn't any shadows which allows the audience to focus on the character and the is in the centre of the frame which makes us pay attention even more, the character looks like she's trying to reach out and pray to God for something else for she's desperate for. You can't really see the lighting that is in this image but the filters that are in this image prevent them from seeing as the picture is very sharp and accentuate the features of the characters.

This image is Low key lighting as there is mainly dark in this image and only having light hit is face, this makes the audience think of the genre of the movie it could be; which may be horror because of the setting and the position of the character also the setting that he is, the lighting encourages this theme. The back lighting helps to counteract the effects of key light making the subject 'rounded' also you can see the characters shadows at the side of the door, so they key light is also facing at the side of the character, which gives the horror/dark effect.

This image has low key lighting because the light and dark are being balanced which creates the dramatic shadows behind the two characters. The under-lighting comes from below the the characters so thats why they haven't got a big shadow, its only in certain places mainly shone on them instead of being as a shadow but they are some elements of shadows. The key lighting makes the lighting be that is being being directed at them, allows the audience to focus on the two characters where have their moment captured well the audience is drawn in by them, as they are framed in the center of the image, the audience aren't distracted by anything else in the image but jus their embraces with one and other.

Film Language: Mise-en-scene

Setting and props: The character seems to be in a outdoor setting, however by looking at the background of the uneven floor and the fire at the back suggests that she is in a rough/action scene, to support this point, her prop; she is holding a bow and got arrows around her back shows it is in a action genre scene. The normal lighting also shows she is in a outdoor setting.

Lighting and colour: The colour of the shot is quite dark, and the colour of the fire being blurred but yet so bright that you can spot it easily, attracts the audience, this shows that the character is in a destructive and dangerous environment however as the character is standing right in front and being at the centre of the frame shows her courage and confidence level but also a leader because what she is facing/looking towards is unknown.

Costume, hair and make-up: The redness on the character's face could suggests that has been running around and have through a lot of physical activity and more of the activity to come her way as her pose does look like she's waiting/looking at something big. The fact that the character is wearing black clothing, it can represent the meaning of a powerful and mystery, this is supported also because she is wearing a shield? around her to protect her form the surrounds. The make-up is very simple as they want to the audience to notice the little features of the character in the sense as it there would be powerful features shown on her face to represent her emotions at that time but they could have out blusher on her to make it even more realistic of the tiredness and exhausted she may be feeling. As the characters hair is braided, this means that the directors that the character will be doing allot of action based activities and they want the audience to be able to see her facial expressions but also for the character this a hairstyle that has mostly done so its like a signature hairstyle that she has in the Hunger Games movies.

Facial expression and body language: The facial expression is quite scared, nervous and anticipation, this suggests that the character is aware of what she is looking towards and she isn't sure on how to react to what she is facing/looking at. The fact that her body language looks like she has turned around almost as if someone has warned her for something and she has turned back to look at something and she is surprised but scared too, however you could argue she may be looking back to reflect or look out for something that she might have missed and she looks anticipated.

Position of the character: She is in the centre of the frame, which brings the idea of her being a independent and strong character because of her facial expression and what she is standing infant of.

The setting is in a country side, open area where there is a lot of greenery and in a small cottage. This is a typical setting for this genre because children or any other audiences can see the bright and other areas of environments they may not have seen and to open their imaginative side to how they could think about things. There aren't many props, but the setting shows its an old generation movie because of the paper in his hand and how they used to write in the inks because they didn't have pens back then. The clothing also shows the movie was going back to the olden days as they are wearing short shorts, long coats, big boots and the men had long hair. The men are also riding on horses because back in the olden days they weren't no cars so this point also supports the fact that the setting is set in the olden days. There is variety of shots; mainly close up and far wide shot so the audience can see the characters facial expressions and the settings in that scene.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKZGlSt9Llg - Ride Along (Comedy)
The setting in this scene is set in a high school baseball court, in a open area. There isn't many props being used in this scene, but as the boy in the scene is carrying a school bag supports the idea of the setting being in a school court and Kevin Hurt being the 'police officer' shows that in a school environment he wants to protect the students and of how he talking to him too. The use of clothing shows that it a modern movie and they the audience would be able to relate to the characters and settings as it is got young characters and modern that everybody has heard of and known so the movie would get more views because of what it is based on as well. The facial expression and body language is quite serious as the  two guys are trying to have a serious conversations but obviously as the police officer is making funny jokes and trying to get the comedy genre of the movie across, the young boy isn't taking the conversation seriously as his body language seems carless and he's facial expression looks like he doesn't care and he's also is laughing which also supports the idea of him not taking the conversation seriously. The lighting is normal and bright as the setting is set outside and the day looks like its a bright normal day so normal setting is applied.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTxlh65Pe14 - Harry Potter (fantasy novel)
The setting is indoor and this scene is based around is in a house. The main props that are being shown is the normal furniture that you would have in a house like a kitchen table, chairs ect.. these furniture gives us as the audience an idea of where the setting is. The lighting and colour of this scene is dim lighting as they are at home and it is still day time, the use of lighting makes us aware of the home settings and the facial expressions of the characters, the use of the fire in the scene allows us to think about the weather as they have lit the fire because of the cold weather, most of the colours are quite dull and grey because of type of environment that they are in. In this scene you can tell this is quite an old movie because of the custom and clothing they are wearing. As the young boy is wearing a sweater is shows the style of fashion is old and not its something boys would wear now so it supports the idea of it being an old movie. There are shots, of mainly close up and wide.

Film Language Analysis.

The film poster presents a sic-fi genre through the images such as the characters presented and the 'futuristic' / 'out of space' theme, this is done by using the colour scheme of yellow, red, orange and black, the use of colours gives us the idea of some type of imagery of space, and the idea of spaceships too; this is supported by the machinery popping up.  When looking at the poster, the images stands out the most to the audience because of the sizes of them, their facial expressions gives us the hint of seriousness and the stress the man is facing because of the lighting and the camerawork that has gone into it, by looking at the lady, we can tell that she is a quite femme fatale because of the segregate she is holding and the use of facial expression. However when looking at the images you can see that the lady looks more of a cartoon made character rather than the male character and cleverly this makes us refer to the tag line, which does hint out to us that guy in the picture created the lady to make her 'his perfect match but she then makes his problem.' The typography of the text itself 'Horrison Ford' and Blade Runner' are a similar size and the font of the text could create the mystery and a dark atmosphere because of the red in the text and that matches with the colour scheme of the images and gives the dark look. All of these techniques come together to give the general look of dark, mystery, and futuristic look. The target audience for this would be young educated audience between 20 - 30 years old because looking at the film poster it wouldn't attract younger people.

This film poster has a bight colour scheme rather than the traditional horror films, which tells us that the this movie has a parody style to it. The main colour that catches the audiences attention is the colour red, which represents the idea of 'horror' and  a connation of blood which is what horror movies involve to create the scary atmosphere. Having the title as 'Scary movie 2' shows that it is a franchise which could mean that it has more of a fan base to release another sequel of the movie. As the tagline is totally opposite with the movie name, this shows that movie genre would be a 'comedy horror movie' which adds to the twist and parody of how they represent and think of the original 'scary movie.' Having a younger cast could attract a younger target audience to come and see the movie so this shows that its a teen movie. The facial expression of the cast straight away shows the exaggeration of how they feel towards the original scary movie and it shows that their mocking the scary films generally too.
The typography of the text is simple and quite kiddy looking even the image in the 'o' in the word 'movie' gives the childish look also. The background colour black and blue could represent the 'mystery' side of the 'scary movie.'

Uzak is a Turkish movie. The colour scheme of this film poster is dark and grey colours which could represents the man's emotions as its the colours can represent the dark, lonely, miserable, cold and sad side to the film poster. The lighting and the camerawork makes you feel connected and you could see the downsides of things in the background to it all for example the population and the dirt makes you feel 'dark and grey' too. The film Poster appeals niche market as the poster doesn't have a proffestional appearance and it doesn't have an appearance and layout of a traditional film poster. The protagonist being in the centre of the image makes the audience question whats his story, what's his importance in the movie? why isn't he facing the camera? The film poster doesn't give much away for what the story line is and genre it could fit in. Personally to me i think this movie could fit in the educational/informative genre because of all the background details added in the editing. The film poster create a lonely, dark and alone atmosphere so where the audience could reflect? on their surrounds? The target audience would much older audience (30-45) because of the appearance.

The colour scheme of this film poster adds a mystery look because blue and green. The use of the colour blue in the sky makes the audience think of a normal sunny day, and the dark green colour of grass tells us setting is outdoors but doesn't tell us the exact setting. The photograph has been taken in a wide shot looking upwards at the boy from inside the hole which still doesn't tell us the location. The facial expression of the young boy shows that his curious to find out whats inside the hole and by his body language it suggests that he's ready to go look inside even more because his 'not scared' which links to the movie title name. The movie and name and the centre image both link together which makes the audience wonder what the movie is about and possibly could be inside the hole, so this persuades the audience to go watch the movie. The target audience of this movie could be young teenagers because there is a young cast and it could relate to that specific audience (10-15 years)

Sin City seems like a action/crime genre because of the weapons shown in the film poster. The colour scheme of the film poster; black and white creates the dark and dangerous atmosphere which the red in the title also supports idea of the movie being dark and dangerous, the colour can represents blood and evilness, this links with the weapons; guns, shown in the image of the cast holding, so the blood, guns and the genre being action and crime all of these detail link to the theme. The photograph has been taken in a shot where the cast look quite imitating but yet it shows their status; powerful. because the cast are standing tall and the shot is taken from a lower angle and they look scary to approach if it was a real life view but also as each member of the casts poses for the photograph they all are posing in a way that creates the dark and mystery look. This image is powerful. As the man is in the centre of the image, does that mean that this man is the leader of the group? Why is is poisitoned before and in front of everyone else? The target audience would be 18+ or anyone that is into action/crime movies. The lighting in this poster also creates the mystery and dark atmosphere.

Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man's Chest is a franchise of pirates of the caribbean which means that the first movie must have been really popular and had a huge fan base for them to make another sequel for the movie. On top of the cast members they have their names at the top which highlights their importance and it could allow them known to the new people who may not know they actually are. Using the colours black and dark green can show the adventure side and mistery to what challenges they may be facing throughout their challenges. The size of the images of the cast are larger and take up most of the poster to show their importance and show that they are the main characters in the movie. As for the smaller images in the background this can show what could come their way in the movie or they may also have an importance or a memory in the first part of the movie that they may also want to include to this squeal. The positions and the facial expresstion in the cast show a serious side, which could make the audience think about it.  The lighting is natural so everything can be clearly been seen by the audience and can exploit the little things in the poster.

The colour scheme is very bright and it has the colours of blue, while, yellow, green which represent joy and happiness which seem to be the case because of the facial expressions of the cast members and the fact that paper is up in the air and thats a sign for celebrations. The target audience would be a family movie because in the background there is mixture of ages so it could be relatable to the audience. As the two casts are are larger size than all the other cast members again sows their importance and also could show they are the main characters the movie revolves around them. The subject in the front are the protagonist that is looking at the word 'Bride' and is smiling about it shows that he is looking for the bride and the lady next to him could mean that she is the bride? and the fact that she is staring right into the camera and the way she is posing could show that she is in demand in the relationship? Also the buildings at the background show that the families and movie includes two cultures coming together.

The colour scheme; black can show this movie is dark and serious movie. As the lady acts as a protagonist and she is in the centre of the shot, she could be be referred to the title as the 'million dollar baby.' The lighting in this shot is very dim so this can also act to fact that they want dark and serious and mystrious effect to be added to the atmosphere which would make the audience wonder about the storyline and what could this possibly mean. The facial expression of the characters are very blank which maintains the mysterious effect to the audience and lighting is really dim where you can't really see the casts properly and its quite faded, which makes the audience on edge wanting to know more about the film or the poster. The poses of the casts adds the suspicious side to it too. I can really see what the genre it would be because its quite blank and doesn't give anything away to the audience which would then take them want to go to watch the movie.
